Ajrakh

Kutch, Gujarat

4pieces 26.09.2026opens 1 of 1every piece

Ajrakh is made by covering the cloth in the places you want to stay clean, dyeing it, then doing it again. Sixteen steps, most of them waiting. What survives the dye is the design, and the parts that did not survive exactly are how you know a hand did it.

Indigo comes from a vat. Madder red comes from a root. The white is the cloth itself, never dyed, protected under paste. Registration is done by eye, so the blocks land a hair off, every time.
